You can find a bazillion different slime recipes online. In our last slime post, we showed you how to make Incredible Edible Slime using pudding. Be sure to check out that post and video too.
If you want to use glue as the base, you will also need an activator. There are several different products that can be used as the activator. Some people use liquid starch. Some use detergents or Borax. We do not recommend Borax because there are some safety concerns surrounding exposure to it. For this particular slime, we decided to use baking soda and contact solution as the activator. We had a few bottles of outdated contact solution we didn’t want to waste, so slime seemed like a good use for them.
You Will Need:
- 1-2 cups of glue
- a bit of baking soda
- contact solution
- food coloring
- cheap, small toys
We also found the 2oz. clear plastic cups with lids at Dollar Tree. Those are really made for condiments, so they don’t hold much. We believe something a little bigger would have worked better. Amazon has bulk packs of the 4oz. size. These are made for desserts and would give you a better container for slime.
If you plan on making large amounts of slime, the slime-making experts at The House That Never Slumbers recommend buying glue by the gallon. Sometimes during back-to-school sales, you can get the small, school-sized bottles of glue for 25 cents. That may seem cheaper, but we have found it’s very difficult to get all the glue out of those tiny bottles, and you end up wasting quite a bit. It pours nicely from the gallon-sized bottle, and you don’t have to deal with that tiny, orange tip. Fortunately, Amazon also sells glue by the gallon at a reasonable price.
If you are a family that celebrates Halloween, this could be a fun holiday project. The Monster Slime would be very cool for a monster themed birthday party. Miss Chatterbox made enough to take one to each of her cross country team members.
We hope you enjoy this slime project as much as we did! Check out the video.
