Did Thomas Ward Fight in the Revolutionary War? [Genealogy] –

The progenitor of the many Wards discussed below was Mr. Thomas Ward who may have fought in the Revolutionary War. I cannot definitively determine if he served as a soldier. Based on some of the notations on photos, the family seemed to believe their forefather fought in the Revolution. E. Tucker states otherwise. Perhaps a reader who belongs to this line will be able to provide confirmation of his service.

For an explanation of how these photos came into my possession, please see my prior post Rescued Photo Album – Ward and Pettyjohn Families of Randolph County, Indiana.  Before posting any additional portraits, I wanted to post a family tree.  When I look at a family album, I always want to know how the subjects are connected.  Since this family is not my own family, I did a bit of research in E. Tucker’s History of Randolph County, Indiana 1872 to connect the dots.

The tree I compiled is as follows:

Descendants of Thomas Ward

Generation No. 1

1. Thomas1 Ward1.

Notes for Thomas Ward:
According to E. Tucker’s Randolph County, Indiana 1882 (hereafter referred to as Tucker) p 327, this Thomas Ward lived in North Carolina during the time of the Revolutionary War. Although both sides tried to force him into military service, he did not fight because he was a Quaker. But his brother was an American Colonial. This information conflicts with information I have read in other places stating that this Thomas Ward fought in the Revolution.

Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Ward

Here are photos of a Thomas Ward and a Mrs. T. Ward.  The notes on the first photo indicate that this IS NOT the Thomas Ward who may have fought in the Revolutionary War, but rather, a grandson.  This could possibly be the son of Joab Ward and Amy Graves listed above with several wives.  A note on the second photo identifies this lady as Mrs. T. Ward.  Assuming the T. stands for Thomas, I wonder which or the many Mrs. Thomas Wards this would be???
